About The Aussie Asian Pantry

The Aussie Asian Pantry is your friendly guide to cooking Korean and Asian food at home in Australia — and, just as importantly, knowing exactly where to buy the ingredients and what they should cost.

Why this blog exists

If you’ve ever followed a Korean recipe only to get stuck at “add gochujang” — wondering what it is, which brand to buy, and where on earth to find it in Australia — this blog is for you. Plenty of sites teach you how to cook Asian dishes. Almost none tell you where to actually shop for the ingredients here, on the ground, in Australia.

That’s the gap we fill. Every recipe comes with a clear shopping guide: what to buy, what makes a good substitute, and which Australian Asian grocers — online and in-store — stock it.

Who’s behind it

I’m David, a Korean living in Australia. I grew up eating this food, and I’ve spent years tracking down the best ingredients across Australian Asian supermarkets — comparing prices, testing brands, and figuring out what’s actually worth buying. The Aussie Asian Pantry is where I share what I’ve learned so you can skip the trial and error.

What you’ll find here

  • Easy, tested recipes — Korean classics first, with Japanese and Chinese dishes to follow.
  • Where-to-buy guides — honest comparisons of Australian Asian grocers, online and offline.
  • Product round-ups — the best ramen, sauces, snacks and pantry staples, ranked.
  • Beginner guides — what each ingredient is and how to use it.
